    Re: Race for the 9th...

In the interest of full disclosure:

reason.tv is the online branch of Reason Magazine, which is published by The Reason Foundation, a Libertarian group founded by Robert Poole in 1978.

A quick overview of the Libertarian belief system will show that they are against government in most forms (Anarchy being an extremist wing of Libertarianism), and want deregulation across the board for all businesses and people. Most Libertarians seek the abolition of such things as Social Security, Medicare, government assistance, corporate taxes, consumer protections, etc...and seek to rid the government of such branches as the FBI, CIA, IRS, Dept of Energy, Dept of Education, SEC, Better Business Bureau--all in the interest of letting businesses and people do what they as they will w/o consequences.

On The Reason Foundation's board of trustees (Reason Foundation - Trustees and Officers) sits David Koch, who along with brother Charles, own Koch Industries, which by all accounts is the 2nd largest privately-owned business behind Cargill in the US. They do business mainly in petro refining/distribution, chemicals, and energy amongst other things.

The Reason Foundation is normally classified as a right-libertarian think-tank, as is the Cato Institute, which was co-founded by Charles Koch. The Cato Institute gives away a prize every two years called the Milton Friedman Prize, named for the father of supply-side (read, trickle-down) economics.

Also, keep in mind that the Kochs fronted a lot of the money that started the "grass roots" movement Tea Party Organization called "Americans For Prosperity". Some would have you believe that it was just a bunch of ordinary folks like you and me standing up for their rights as Americans...but it's really a PAC for the Koch's to further their own agendas. Koch Industries Shifts on Tea Party - Washington Wire - WSJ

So...you have a massive privately-owned multi-national energy conglomerate who's two primary owners have founded and/or sit on the board of two different "right-libertarian think-tanks", and you expect any of us to take anything that The Reason Foundation via reason.tv puts out in any shape/form/fashion as non-partisan and valid to this discussion?

Sorry, given the information above--I can't do that.

I posted something like that once before, how the supposed grassroots movement is really funded by huge businessmen, but of course nobody really cared.

if you guys really think that letting these big, greedy corporations run wild is the best idea, and the rest of the country gets behind that, peace. im canada bound

Besides the fact it was much more logical than the biggest cheerleader for the coal industry in congress all of a sudden "turning his back on coal", a simple google search backs up everything he said and what happened with the bill.

No one has ever said it was anything new, it's just more widespread, politics has cleaned up a lot but it's just everywhere now. Jefferson wasn't the last either, Andy Jacksons wife(Rachel) was attacked all the time by the other side, then with Grover Cleveland in his first term? I think was attacked for his supposed illegitimate child - look up the newspaper headline that said "MA MA, WHERE'S PA PA?" then the one after he won that says "AT THE WHITEHOUSE, HA HA HA". Lincoln dealt with a lot before him too of course.

Its basically been this way after Washington was given the presidency with almost every political office.

Hey--you're the one who posted it. For those who didn't know the stuff I took the time to dig up, now they know the slant from which that video and anything from reason.tv is coming from. That alone was worth it. It wasn't so much an attack on you as it was the source of that video.

At least we all now know what any reason.tv stuff sources have as alterior motives.
